A warm thank you to Our Patriots

It is a tasking, expensive and painstaking venture to start an institution of higher learning, a university or any of its variations. Earlier this year we went public about our vision to create this institution – Beni American University. However costs remained a constant. We decided to start a campaign that would enable us raise some funds to take care of some of our immediate needs and so we did.

Our pitch was rough, we were rookies and we were young too. It took a few great individuals – Our Patriots to believe in what we aimed to achieve, impact and the results we promised to produce.

With the funds we have raised, We were able to do the following

  • Conduct on ground surveys in Nigeria between June and September
  • Introduce the project to the immediate market
  • Start off our licensing and accreditation process

We are particularly grateful to the following Patriots for their monetary contributions, support and advise. [ List in Alphabetical Order ]

BAU Partners AMSCCE

Beni American University
Collaborates with
Centre for Entrepreneurship, Atlanta Metropolitan State College

23/05/2012

In demonstration of her commitment to push the boundaries of knowledge and provide world-class tertiary education to Africans, Beni American University (BAU) is partnering with the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Atlanta Metropolitan State College, U.S to deliver a 12-week Business Accelerator programme to BAU scholars.

The Atlanta Metropolitan State College Centre for Entrepreneurship (AMSCCE) is a resource centre for entrepreneurs and their mission is to provide existing and budding entrepreneurs with the tools and skills needs to successfully establish, operate and nurture a business for growth.

BAU is also an educational institution that is targeted at pioneering boundless learning in sub-saharan Africa, thus setting the standard for educational excellence in the region through cutting-edge technologies.

This partnership is expected to ensure that BAU succeeds in her mission to reduce the statistics of students with academic potential in Africa who lack
access to proper higher education due to poor and inadequate infrastructure in the region, among other factors. This partnership will also allow these students to become self sustaining entrepreneurs that will create game changing startups.

According to the collaboration between both institutions, BAU students would be offered a twelve-week Business Accelerator package which includes
seminars in Idea development, Entrepreneurial Excellence, Concept Paper, Pitch Competitions and much more. The students would also be beneficiaries of a Mentoring Program from AMSCCE.

AMSCCE works to build entrepreneurial creativity, nurture viable ideas and assist in the success of entrepreneurial ventures. By joining BAU in providing “low cost” educational opportunities to current and aspiring entrepreneurs, providing networking opportunities, and lending opportunities to learn about effective and ethical business practices, they are keying in with BAU’s vision to become Africa’s premier online hybrid institution of learning.

Why Beni American University

We created and grew a successful global educational social network – Students Circle in 2010. Having had some success with Students Circle, we decided to take that further and solve an evolving social problem in Nigeria and Africa. Here are some coverage of our work with Students Circle Network:

Beni American University is taking the vision of educating African youths to the next level. We strongly believe in education and the possibilities it will provide for students individually, their immediate communities and the economy in general.

In Nigeria alone, an average of 1.5million students graduate from High School annually and only 350 thousand of these students can be admitted into institutions of higher learning in Nigeria on average.

This is due to Corruption, Infrastructure Depletion, Low Graduation Rate, Strikes and an old education system.

Some References

We discovered that over 100 thousand of the left over students are qualified, willing and able to afford a post-secondary higher education.

We want to provide this opportunity to as many of those 100 thousand students as we can annually. To this effect we are starting West Africa’s first Hybrid / Online University* that will not be limited by gender, location, access, finance, time or age**

What We will Offer

  1. World Class Learning and Teaching provide by very experienced international faculty members.
  2. Technology support for the students (Free tablet computers and subsidized mobile internet access)
  3. Extensive local infrastructural support (Modern Learning Facilities for facilitation)
  4. A Collection of over 10 million digital and paper books in our modern libraries.
  5. Academic and Support partnerships to create a global value for our students
  6. Funding Start Up projects by our students

The Impact

If we educate and engage Nigerian youths and students, we will

  1. Fund students’ graduation projects that we find viable for the real market
  2. Graduate job creators for the Nigerian economy. (We will be giving our students a 12 week entrepreneurial bootcamp before graduation)
  3. Reduce the migration of youths out of Nigeria and Africa.
  4. Significantly reduce the social vices that build up out of the youths being idle
  5. Train youths with hands on solutions to solve real problems
  6. Equip the next generation that can overcome their limitations and empower others

What we have done so far?

  1. We already have a teaching and learning platform, a full qualified faculty
  2. Successfully completed a pilot student program on our platform with high reviews.
  3. We have started building strong international academic and support partnerships
  4. Building a strong advisory board that is guiding and shaping this vision
  5. Conducted extensive analysis, interviews, surveys in the region and we see a market that is ready to learn and be educated

Presidents Welcome Message

Welcome to Beni American University.

At BAU we are committed to providing world-class education to every African, one student at a time. BAU is taking strides towards this pursuit by creating cutting edge solutions that will keep education in Africa at par with the 21st century.

I am aware of the challenges ahead of us, considering the fact that we are bringing something novel to the region. No doubt, there are several huddles to face and overcome by every stakeholder in BAU, including our students, staff and the community. However, I am confident that we will learn from these challenges to become the best institution of higher learning – providing African solutions to African and global problems through profound knowledge sharing and societal engagment.

When BAU was founded, I envisioned a university that will be dedicated to the removal of barriers which hamper access to higher education, rather, provide a level platform for learners across all age groups and gender in Africa and creating lasting opportunities for them beyond the classroom and long after graduation.

To that end, I will continue to drive the vision of the university to remain an institution that is focused on ensuring the success of incumbent and prospective students through the following key principles: excellence, openness, flexibility and innovation.

Therefore, I call on parents, instructors, students, institutions; the community, the government and every other stakeholder, to support us on this journey as we strive to reach our goals.

We will continue to set the standard in Africa’s higher education sphere.

Once again, welcome to Beni American University.
